Just Cover it up

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

If you make a mistake, chances are you will have a consequence. What goes around comes around, right? Speed, get caught…..receive costly ticket! Ouch! Steal, get caught….go to jail! Eeek! Murder, get caught….prison maybe even death yourself, if you’re in certain states. Each and every person has a responsibility to do the “right thing” in all circumstances of their lives.

I’ve read several news accounts of the Harvard professor vs. the Cambridge policeman’s encounter (made so publicly famous during the big “Health Care” shpiel). The story certainly seems simple. A concerned citizen called police fearing a break-in at a neighboring home (this home had been burglarized recently). The police respond and attempt to investigate the gentleman at the residence (I would feel appreciative of this service)….but that’s just me. The professor is mouthy and argumentative with the officer’s, even after being warned to settle down. He gets arrested…..throws down the race card. The rest is history. Uuuh, for real history. Cause now he’s going to the White House for……a beer!

NOTE: I don’t know about you….but when I have an encounter with the PO-PO…..I BEHAVE! Why? I respect his position and understand that he could misconstrue anything I might say or do as being uncooperative! Whether I’m white or black or yellow or red! Period! I want to be treated with kindness and respect…so I conduct myself in that same manner. Brilliant, huh? Common courtesy, kicked up a notch! If it could only catch on…

Tonight is the big event. News shows are calling it The Beer Summit. What a shame! Our President has stepped in to bring the parties together (oh…he’s personal friends with the professor, I might add). What is this? He’s not Mr. Fixit! He has spoken out regarding the case and hasn’t made it look like the police were doing their job in an honoring manner. He even said, “they acted stupidly”! Come on! I am absolutely appalled! He’s out of line to blurt that out during the time all of America is tuned in for A REAL TRAVESTY…..the healthcare fiasco! ZIP IT, SIR!

We all should be so lucky!

Here’s another story that will have you scratching your head.

A policeman rear-ends a lady down in Florida. When he speaks with her she admits to having had a few drinks earlier. He places her in his patrol car and has a conversation with another officer….they devise a plan to charge her with the accident. Everything that is said between the two is recorded on the officer’s webcam! Don’t ya just love technology? Yea, me too! πŸ™‚

HE HIT HER! (the video of this incident is on youtube….warning: strong language involved)

Makes you nervous? It should! Who can you trust?

Nobody but Jesus!

Dear Lord,
I don’t know how you put up with us. We’re pathetic! It seems to be more and more acceptable to cover up our wrongs or to blame someone else for our mistakes. We need your Holy conviction in our lives, daily. Make us uncomfortable….bother us until we do the right thing! I don’t want to face you with such guilt on my hands. Forgive me when I don’t own my mistakes…..and thank you for your righteousness that keeps me striving to be like you.
Amen.

It is better to trust and take refuge in the Lord than to put confidence in man.
Psalm 118: 8

Someone else’s sin

Monday, July 27th, 2009

One of the saddest parts of scripture can be found in 2 Samuel. King David had some bad kids! Namely, Absolom. In chapter 13, we see that he had a beautiful sister named Tamar. Tamar was a virgin. Amnon, another brother (from another mother) was fascinated with her. He was lusting to the point of craziness. He had to have her! An evil plan was put in place at the urging of Jonadab, a not so upstanding friend. Amnon would fake sick and ask for Tamar to come make cakes and feed him until he felt well again. Huh? That just sounds hokey to me. King David sent word for Tamar to aid poor sick Amnon (never knowing that a crime so sad would take place against her). She went, he raped her…even though she begged him not to. Then, verse 15 says, “Amnon hated her with such intensity that the hatred he hated her with was greater than the love he had loved her with.”

Tamar’s life…..was ruined!

She lived the rest of her life as a desolate woman in her brother’s house.

The King…..was furious! That’s all we are told. He doesn’t call him in and bust any booty! He simply feels helpless, maybe. Oh but Absolom, he hasn’t let it go. Two years later, he pounces on an opportunity to retaliate. He too devises a little scheme. He invites all the king’s sons to a little party out at Baal-hazor. He tells his men to keep an eye on Amnon, once he’s good and drunk…..kill him! They do the deed….the rest of the sons take off (wouldn’t you?) and head for safety. By this point, who can you trust, right? Certainly not a brother!

Again, the king does nothing…..he mourns but gives no real consequences. Scripture tells us, he tore his clothes and wept. Which is understandable….it was his son. On top of that, he was killed by another son. So, yeah….I think that’s pretty awful! But, come on KING! Hold someone accountable! Parenting is tough! We’re not to be passive in that job. Our kids need Christ-like guidance all the time.

We see that Absolom stays away for 3 years. Then weasles his way back in….and here’s where it gets really ugly! Absolom wants to take over his father’s role as king. Undeservedly at that. He uses people and trickery to get the king into battle. King David split and started running for his life with his men…..he left behind 10 of his concubines to take care of the palace.

Bad idea.

Absolom is so wicked. He takes these poor women to the roof and rapes them for the whole world to see. Not only are they his victims…but in Chapter 20 we see that they lived the rest of their lives as if they were widows. King David put them under guard, he provided for them…but he never spent any time with them again. It was as if they never existed!

Someone else’s sin! Tamar and the 10 concubines….victim’s of someone else’s sin! What had they done? Through no fault of their own, these women carried the consequences of someone else’s sin to their graves.

This causes me to think long and hard about my own sin. Not only does it affect me but it affects those around me. I don’t want it to, but the reality is that it does. How can I protect those that I love? By living in obedience to Christ. He specifically died for me in order that I would be free from the effects of sin. He was beaten….so I could be whole. God’s forgiveness and sacrifice allows me the freedom to be His…even though I don’t deserve it.

“I will turn their mourning into joy and will comfort them and give them joy for their sorrow”. Jeremiah 31:13

Morgan, Leah & Ally

It’s been a long fought battle. She was only 16! No one can understand this thing called cancer. It’s never picky regarding who it attacks. Young, old, weak, strong. Life as we know it can change in an instant with those three horrible words. You have cancer.

Morgan touched many lives. Her illness brought our community together in so many ways. Because of the love that so many felt for her and her family. She was worth fighting for! I cannot think of a more fitting way to describe those around her besides warriors. They battled right alongside this sweet child. I admire them all.

Today, Morgan lives. Not on this earthly ground but in the heavenly eternity that we all should long for. I’ll miss her. I will feel pain each time I pass her sweet family members. I’ll pray for them.

Dear God

Thank you for sharing Morgan with us. Please wrap your loving arms of peace and understanding around this family. They’re facing tough days ahead. Let them feel you and know that you will carry them forward. Show your glory and power. You are all that we need.

Amen

WELCOME Blog Hop Party Friends!!

I’ve been so busy lately that I didn’t even realize what today was!?! It’s my one year anniversary BLOGGING! Last year, July 23rd was my very first day to post on the blog I had been dreaming of. I was so excited! Today, a year later…..I still get that same excited feeling when I sit down to write a new post. Weird, huh? I just love it. It feels fantastic to write and share with my friends and family the stuff going on in my family/world. It’s my place! I cherish it!

I was more than just a newbie though. I was a total idiot! I didn’t know enough about computers or code or anything to be a “real” blogger! So, I did what any hard-headed stubborn southern-born gal would do…..I kept messing with it and trying this and trying that until I learned how to get it to do what I wanted it to do. Believe me, I’m still learning something new everyday. I’m so glad that my husband encouraged me to blog! Thank you honey for pushing me out of my comfort zone! I love you and I love blogging!

Happy 1st Anniversary QUEENIES LITTLE KINGDOM

Now to celebrate…..how about a freebie? A GIVEAWAY? Yea, that perked you up….I bet! πŸ™‚ Since I’m still ticked at Starbucks…..how about a Coldstone Creamery card? Oh baby, that place is scrumptious!
