Black Friday…It’s not for everyone!

Sunday, November 29th, 2009

I’m not good with crowds! I just don’t like them! They bring out the worst in people (I think). I mean….who really likes pushy aggressive crazy people in the store? Nobody! That’s why I don’t get all excited about shopping on Black Friday! It’s just not my thing!

I like the fun of shopping….just not all the people! I ventured out on Friday (not at the wee hours) but at around lunchtime. It was not pretty! People had scavaged (is that a word?) all over the stores. There wasn’t anything of value left to buy. I went looking for a few good deals…..NOT! It wasn’t worth it.

I think I’ve figured out why they call it Black Friday though. It’s a reflection of the hearts of those out and about. Even the sales clerks and store employees were mean. I asked for assistance (very kindly) and was pretty much snapped at with eye rolls included. I really do not like unfriendly service…..especially when it takes more effort to be a meanie than it does to just be nice! πŸ™‚

After all the catastrophe’s that have plagued my family over the last few months…..Christmas shopping is the last thing we’ll be doing anyway. It seems that one thing after another has managed to hit our family.

First….Gates was way overdue for her eye exam and she needed contacts. That was not in the budget but needed to be done. Did it!
Second….Ally kept saying she COULDN’T see and she was right. Back to the eye doctor and $400 later…..glasses! Not in the budget again. But necessary!
Third….Gavin calls with the terrible toothache! Yes….the root canal visit! REALLY not in the budget….$750. And now he feels good again.
And finally…the creme de la creme of issues! Our hot water heater busted a leak and had to be replaced! We had babied it long enough. By this past week it had to be replaced. Water was pouring down in our garage. Bad sign! Cause living in Indiana…..and showering in cold water is not a healthy way to go!

I’m thankful. Thankful that I have a family to love and care for. Thankful that I have a house to live in and shower in. It’s not going to be the kind of Christmas we would wish for (again). But we will have each other and we’ll be warm and fed. Life doesn’t always go as we plan, does it? But God knows…..and he has a purpose for everything. So, I’m going to trust Him and lean on Him….just like His word tells me I can.

Won’t you do the same?

Beautiful Inspiration

Ally loves her Biblical Literature class. I knew she would. Her teacher, Mr. Titus is a great friend of mine. We used to be neighbors (cubby neighbors) in the teacher workroom. Neither of us had our own classrooms then. So we would listen to music and work on our computers all while talking back and forth about everything going on in our lives. I always loved having him for a neighbor. He’s kind, smart and in love with Jesus! We could share “God stuff” and each of us would get it!

During the semester each student has an inspirational project that he/she is responsible for. It can be anything……that is Biblically inspired! Over the years, Mr. Titus has shared his classes treasures with me. What a blessing to see such great work. So much goes into a project like this.

Ally decided to do a canvas art. She first painted it with intentions of adding scripture. After seeing a great project here she felt inspired to do the same with her Bible verse. It was fun! I loved watching her work and focus on making it just right. She’s a fabulous artist! Always has been.

Here she is with the finished project!

Great job, Ally! I love knowing that you have that verse hidden in your heart. God’s word is like no other!

His grace…….is all I need

Lord Jesus
Your grace is amazing! Of all that I know about your love…..this grace you lavish on me continues to remind me of my worth to you. I want to blanket those around me with that kind of grace. Help me to let it flow so easily….that it becomes second nature.
Amen

It’s that time again….

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I wasn’t expecting it….but I will surely take it! A 2 hour delay!! Yay! And it’s on a Friday! Even better. Thank you Lord. It’s amazing what a few extra hours in the morning before school does for your spirit! I’m feeling pretty awesome!

We weren’t delayed for snow or ice this time…..it was foggy! It was still very foggy when we drove to school at 10:00am. Crazy weather.
I can’t help but compare the fog in our vision to the sin we hold onto in our hearts. Both blind you….impare you and hold you back from something. They keep you parked right where you are. No going forward.

I don’t want to be stuck. Do you? The only way out of that is to rid myself of the sin that holds me so tightly. That’s my focus today. Clean out, reboot, move ahead……confess!

Lord Jesus
Thank you for a little extra time this morning. It’s times like these that give me reflective moments to make changes in my life. I don’t want to live under the darkness of sin. Help me to clean out anything in my heart that doesn’t bring you honor and glory!
Amen

Excuse me while I kick & scream!

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009

Do you ever have those days? You know. The ones that make you just want to scream? Yea, me too. I had one yesterday. I really wanted to scream. I used to work at a high school in another town not far from where I live now. I learned of a great stress outlet while there. The librarian had a few boxes that she would hang on to in the back storage room. We couldn’t just scream when we were feeling frustrated at school…..so she reserved these boxes for kicking! πŸ™‚

And man……did we go kicking! It was good therapy! Free too!

Funny, huh? But a fantastic idea! One that I definitely took advantage of! I didn’t have to do it very often….but it was there if I needed it. I just stumbled onto something else that might help if you ever need an outlet. A screaming pillow! Who woulda thunk it?

I’m considering this as a gift giving idea!

Sometimes, life is just hard and all you want to do is kick or scream!

Dear Lord,
Thank you that I can vent my feelings of frustration freely. Help me to do it in a way that is healthy and honoring to you. I don’t want to be some crazy out of control nutjob. I just want to feel peace. Peace that comes from knowing I belong to a Mighty Savior named Jesus!
Amen
