Greatest Gift

On a day when I feel my world is crumbling down around me….this pops up on my Facebook page.

God
Your love for me is outrageous! You know just how to show me love and tenderness at precisely the right time. Thank you. It’s only because of you that I can do anything.
Amen

Bye, Dude

It’s been a great week of hanging out! I consider myself a seasoned professional at it too. I like home! And I like it even better when all my people (my hubby & kids) are there. Having a kid in college takes forever to get used to. I don’t believe you ever get totally used to it…you simply adjust.

Today was the BIG game! Indiana University vs. Purdue. This little rivalry is one for the Indiana history books. He didn’t have a ticket, so he planned to be “home” (his college apartment) to watch it with his roommates. I understand.

So……

He left. But, not before he snagged himself a little Christmas tree. πŸ™‚

Have a great last few weeks of school, son. Study hard, sleep well and BE CAREFUL!! I’ll be praying for you….everyday! I’ll be missing you, all 202.2 pounds of you!
Love, Mom

Oh and WAY TO GO IU!! Way to bring that bucket back home! Yeehaw!

It’s BLACK out there!

I’ve never been a fan of shopping after Thanksgiving! I mean, seriously? Who wants to? Oh wait, lots of folks…..just turn on the news and see. Crowds of pushy shoppers cram their way through the freshly opened doors of stores all over the country. It’s as if you don’t shop today….all the STUFF will be goooooone, forever!

That could be a good thing. I think. What about you?

I didn’t grow up with this shopping tradition. My family always decorated our house for Christmas after Thanksgiving. It never crossed our radar to go out at the crack of dawn….which by the way, is it just me or do they switch these times up to as soon as you put the turkey in the fridge the stores OPEN? It’s like a contest. I think I’ve made my point. I’m not in to win.

Why?

1–I hate crowds! Despise the whole scene. I like people, don’t get me wrong. I just don’t like to shop in complete armored aggressive mode. Not my thing!
2–The deals, really? This just baffles me. While I bet there are some sweet prices on some cool stuff. Is it really that good? The entire month of December is full of sweet deals. I never pay full price for anything I buy…ever!
3–No sleep! I’m a wimp when it comes to missing my rest. I feel horrible, therefore….I will end up treating people awful! Not a good trade-off if you ask me. There is no deal worth missing sleep over unless it is FREE!!!
4–LONG LINES!! Oh no! I can’t even put down in words how that stresses me out! Let’s just say……I’m the most impatient chick on the earth when it comes to standing in a mile long line with crying kids and mean moms. Think: Do not sin in your anger!! Bad scene, people!

{What in tarnation?}

5–My money, gone! It’s no secret! My family budget is pretty much nada. Any extra moola we might have is a luxury at this point. Spending it on Christmas is going to have to be very well thought out. Who can do that in the BF frenzy? Not me. I’ll stick to lists and searching for the best deals on them. {Which I always seem to find}
6–Traffic! Gack! This runs neck and neck with the long lines and pushy fellow shoppers. HORRIBLE!! Not to mention, a tad dangerous. Wouldn’t that just be a great memory for your family….”Mom tragically killed in Black Friday shopping traffic pileup!”? Maybe that sounds a little over the top…but it could happen! Who wants people milling around at their funeral talking about how she had to get to Target for the great deal on 42″ flatscreen tv? Uhh, not me dude!

I can think of so many other things more worthy to do today. My son is home from college, the weather is cold and soon to be snowy and my husband is digging into house projects as I write. I want to go crawl up in the middle of all the fun to be found in staying home.

Good luck to you if you’re one of the many out shopping today. I hope it was worth it. πŸ™‚

My heart is full. Even in the humdrum of busy and stressful days….I realize just how blessed I am. Thank you God.

How could I ask for more?

Just Say NO!

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

There are things in life that we must learn the hard way. Me, I like to learn just about everything the hard way. From A to Z, I could go down the list and just check em off. By the time I reach Z, I’m past my coping limit. I turn to what every bummed out frazzled mom does, crawling in my bed and pulling the covers over me. πŸ™

I know it’s a week to focus on thankfulness….but I am scraping the bottom of the barrel here. I know I have so much to be thankful for and I AM THANKFUL. Believe me, people….I am eternally grateful for so much in my life. But I’m having a mindboggling time with accepting chronic financial and emotional stress.

I know that God has everything in control….yet I struggle to deal with the black and white of my everyday. I feel so crummy about it. The biggest frustration is that I often feel so wigged out that I miss out on loving my family to my best ability. I’ve always tried to be the best wife and mom to my family…..but for the last few years I just feel zapped!

I feel robbed. I can only imagine how they feel.

Do you ever feel like that?

Here’s my “learned the hard way” friendly advice:

1) Don’t hop on the scales when your college age son & husband are having a weigh-in contest to see who’s the biggest! Uhh, no further comment! Depressing!

2) Don’t look at a text message on your way to the grocery store from your hubby that says…..”Hey, the bank account is -bazillion…shop wisely!”. Whaaaaaa? Oh yea, Happy Thanksgiving to me!

3) Don’t take a couple days off from work and think stuff won’t be piled to Jesus when you get back! Boo, to sorting a million different assignments and class papers! πŸ™

4) Don’t go to the dentist for a cleaning and let them do x-rays. Finding 3 different (yes, I’ve had pain) cavities to have filled hurt more than laying with my head on the floor for an hour while the dental expert asked me a million personal questions!! Good times!

5) Don’t take the call from a fellow teacher that has incriminating news about one of your kids! You’ll realize….they’re not perfect and neither are you!

6) Don’t tell a fellow castmember who insults you very openly that they hurt your feelings. Some people can’t handle being called on poor behavior! I learn so slow, ya’ll!

7) Don’t snap at your kids when they really just want to have a conversation with you. Or argue with them. Yuck!

8) Don’t post your stress or frustrations on Facebook. People don’t have time to deal with your problems too. Plus, it gives fodder to gossip. Not good!

9) Don’t stay up too late on work nights. No matter what you think…you will always feel awful the next morning.

10) Don’t forget to tell the people you love how you feel about them. Or to let them know when you need prayer. πŸ˜‰

This advice is of course customized to me. But I bet you can relate to something I’ve said. Life has bumps, it’s complicated. People are flawed. We goof! But God….He never does.

GOD, I’M THANKFUL FOR YOU AND YOUR STEADFASTNESS IN MY LIFE!

Stuff I like

It’s certainly getting to be the holiday season. The weather, the tv ads, the blog goodies being offered and the time off with the family. I’m always finding stuff I love and that I know my girls would love too. We have a thing for purty stuff. πŸ™‚

This Christmas, you may be like me and looking for ways to bless other’s without breaking the bank. Personally, I love gifts that have meaning. I love to give and receive that kind. It means more, right? Fun stuff makes me happy too. I want to share some goodies that I’ve discovered out in internet-ville.
