Good Hair Day

Wednesday, August 31st, 2011

If you’ve bumped into me lately (sometime in the last 8 years) you can attest to the fact that my hair looks awful. Somehow, in the grand scheme of Mother Nature’s blessing…I inherited moody hair. Yea, like hormonal crazy straw blek!

Everyday is a bad hair day. I loathe it!

By the way, have you ever took a gander at either of my daughters? They have amazing hair! They are pretty much known by their signature curly long locks! Both of them stick out like a sore thumb no matter where we go. People stop them and comment on their beautiful hair.

Yea, they’re my biological children. I promise!

Recently, I’ve been doing a little “grow out”. I haven’t had a haircut in months. I’m determined to let it grow. So far–so good! It’s getting long and I really like it.

The problem? It won’t style!

I shampoo, blowdry, hotroll, and then I even spruce up with a flat iron. All that results in…..frizzy or flat gack! I look as if I rode with my head out the window. Just crazy! Did you happen to notice my hair in my beach pictures? Total frizzball, the entire trip. πŸ™

Last week I bought a new HAIR DEVICE!! I can’t tell you how much I’ve spent trying to get my hair to do something. I purchased a new large barrel curling iron. I blew spent $26 on it (simply as an experiment)!

I’M IN LOVE!!!

Because for today…..I just received the sweetest compliment! “Mrs. Galloway, Your hair is so pretty!”.

SCORE!!!!

LifeGuard Press Rocks!

Tuesday, August 30th, 2011

I love all things Lilly Pulitzer! Recently, I purchased the new 17 month pocket agenda in Luscious from Lifeguard Press! Only it won’t fit in MY pocket….cause it’s huge! So, don’t be fooled by the word “pocket”!

See—>

What do you think? Pretty, huh? I love it. I couldn’t wait to scribble my words all over inside it. I’ve been keeping an agenda/datebook/list thingy since I was a kid. Seriously! I have datebooks filled with my life from all the way back to high school. Gee, that sounds weird. I LIKE TO WRITE EVERYTHING DOWN, YA’LL!!

Anywho. I started going through it page by page as soon as it arrived. It’s full of sweet stickers and pages of monthly calenders as well as daily planner pages. Honestly, if you need to record it or write it down….there is a special page just for it. This book rocks!

I flipped every single page….ooooh-ing & aaahhh-ing and then I found a flaw. πŸ™ Seriously, a flipped page IN MY NEW LILLY AGENDA!!! What in tarnation? I guess somehow in the binding process this one page was turned wrong and December/January is now inside out. Boo!

I zipped the company I ordered it from an email explaining the flaw and put it to the side. I wasn’t sure what I would need to do (possibly send it back or be stuck with it) until I heard back from Lifeguard Press. Since they’re closed over the weekend, I waited patiently.

I’m so happy to report that on Monday morning I received this message.

Hi Wanda,

I hope you are doing well! I’m so sorry to hear that your agenda had some pages upside down and backwards. This has not been a common defect with our agendas and it seems maybe there must have been an error when the pages were binding together at our manufacturer. I will not be asking you to send back the defective agenda, rather just keep it as a spare or discard of it if you would like, I have entered a new order for a replacement agenda to be shipped to you at no cost, it should ship out the first half of this week sometime. If there is anything else I can help you with please let me know. Have a great day!

Best wishes

Uhh, AWESOME!!

I love that! I mean, really. If you’ve done business with anyone lately surely you’ve come across some flub in customer service along the way. I was blown away by the quick response and the willingness to “handle” the problem. None of that, send it back to us and we’ll send you another one stuff! They simply just took care of it! Yea, Lifeguard Press! You guys are seriously on top of things! Being helpful and nice about it really says a lot about your company. Thank you from the bottom of my Lilly-loving heart!

Oh and how can you not love this company…..their motto reveals a little peek into how they roll!

Do what you love and love what you do!

Thank You Love

Remember how nervous I was about my upcoming schoolyear? I was uber anxious! I worried about the change in my schedule and which teacher I would be assisting. Change is hard, ya’ll!

But God wasn’t caught off guard.

While my schedule is a bit crazy, it’s filled with great people! I work with three different awesome teachers. I spend my day racing back and forth from one classroom to the other. Last week, someone suggested I wear rollerskates. It’s about that hectic. Sitting down…is history!

I spent the first week doing some important IEP tasks for two of my new teachers. On Friday, Mrs. S. handed me this—->

I immediately felt blessed! She sweetly handed it to me with the kindest words of gratitude for my work on her IEP’s. How thoughtful, right? Wait til you see what was inside….

Hello, chocolate love! I’ve been carrying it around like it’s a diamond ring. I’m a serious chocoholic and I don’t want to waste it on any old snack. I finally took a nibble of it yesterday. Oh emm gee! So rich, so sweet….so very thoughtful!

Saying thank you is one of the kindest things you can do. Showing your thankfulness is even better. I have tried to be a thankful person my whole life. It feels special to know someone loves you enough to do something JUST FOR YOU.

I love the folks I’m working with this year. Especially those who pass out fancy chocolates.

Dear God
Thank you for blanketing me with your love and protection at work. I know you care about every little detail of my life. I feel so blessed that you use people in my life to remind me how much you love me. Help me to show the people around me how much they mean to me too!
Amen

**Who can you bless today just by saying Thank You?

The Man I’d Marry Again

Friday, August 26th, 2011

When you’re young and in love….it’s not very likely that you put much thought into “the far off” future with that person. I know, I didn’t sit around dreaming of teaching my kids big deal stuff or mortgages and jobs. I was way too busy daydreaming of what my house might look like and if my husband would always think I was the hottest thing since cassette tapes in cars. Yea, I was very mature and balanced.

So, to you young unmarried folks…I have some advice for ya.

When choosing a (forever) spouse….

It’s very important that he have tons of patience.

Because he will need it. Often.

Especially if he has beautiful daughters…that act much like their mom.

But drive like…..who knows who. πŸ˜‰

Because only he has the patience to teach your baby parallel parking.

As I watched out my window, the man I picked for me. I saw the man God picked for my kids (and me). The one who worked hard all day and hadn’t eaten. The one who probably hadn’t stopped thinking or doing all day. I saw the one I’d marry all over again.

I LOVE YOU, HONEY! You really are the best! XOXO

Pinter-aholic

Thursday, August 25th, 2011

Look, I can’t be held responsible for your downfall if you get yourself all mixed up with Pinterest! I’ve got my own problems, mm’k? Seriously, I’m not even a “real” pinner. I just sneak in and lounge around for hours like I have nothing else important to do.

Don’t judge me. I’m a sick person and I can’t help it. πŸ˜‰

Look at some of the wonderful things you can find there—–>

I want a house that has this kind of room. Don’t you?

Isn’t he sweet? My Ally is in mad love with owls right now. I must admit, they are awfully cute.

Oh Gee, look who it is. Edward. I’ve missed you, dude. See you in November.

See what I mean….so many funny sayings to crack me up. I especially like the ones that use scripture. Whoever submits them, thank you.

I’m going to stop now because I believe that I may be a candidate for a true Pintervention. I’ve stayed up AGAIN way too late thanks to Pinterest and now I’ll suffer for it. Somebody stop me!

Dear Pinterest Inventor,

I LOVE YOU! Don’t ever go away! And don’t listen to any legal threats you may receive from my family. They don’t mean it. Promise.

You Can Fly

Wednesday, August 24th, 2011

These days I’m face to face with the reality that my mothering opportunities are nearly complete. Not that I will stop being a mother, only that I will not be in the position to train them any longer. They’re grown and there’s not much I can do about it.

So, I reflect.

It’s important that I’ve covered some basics with each of them as I slowly cut them from my mama apron. From the moment I was told about them I prayed for their salvation. I’m thankful for all three of my kids’ decision to follow Christ. It makes my heart swell….God’s grace is so lavish, huh? Trust me, I am an example of it.

Teaching them to love outside of themselves has been an important task. I know just how easy it is to love self. Jesus taught repeatedly about loving other’s. I believe that’s a quality that will outlast many others. I pray….each of them will always love those God places in their path.

Can they do what they need to do in life? Have I given them wings to fly? It may sound crazy but what if I skipped this part? What if I prepared them for heaven and loving others but didn’t give them courage to fly high?

If you’re like me (a mom) and you’re wondering what else should be on your to-do list while raising your kids. Here’s a little something to ensure your kids will have a license to fly.

–Love without boundaries. Don’t just say you love them, show it. Never be jealous or selfish with it.
–Don’t manipulate. If you want your kids to do something, ask. Let them know you have a need but don’t force them to be perfect.
–Practice a good attitude. Instead of being critical, bite your tongue!
–Trust God & them that they have what it takes to fly. Really, trust Him.

Lord,
You are the ultimate example to follow. Help me to teach my children your qualities. Let my thoughts be pure and my heart be righteous in every example I lay before them. I pray for them to fly with the faith that comes from knowing you.
Amen
